Curwood History

• 1958

Curwood founded by Howard Curler and Bob Woods in New London, WI, to pioneer flexible packaging markets, specializing in protective food packaging.

• 1959

Full-scale manufacturing of polyethylene film product begins, including polyethylene-coated cellophane & polyester film.

A major retail cheese company selects Curwood as its supplier.

• 1962

Curwood expands in New London, WI, to accommodate growth.

Awarded patent for Curpolene® used to package natural cheese.

• 1965

Bemis acquires Curwood as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

• 1969

Curwood builds a new plant in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada.

• 1972

Curwood enters the rigid/semi-rigid packaging business for processed meats.

Curwood purchases Royal-Vac® packaging machine for luncheon meat.

• 1978

Curwood purchases FlexVac® for processed meats.

Curwood introduces foodservice coffee films.

• 1979

Curwood is integrated with biaxially-oriented base converter films in New London, WI, and breaks ground for new plant in Oshkosh, WI.

• 1987

Curwood moves general offices and research lab to Oshkosh, WI.

• 1988

Curwood introduces Liquiflex® packaging for foodservice and portion-control packets.

• 1992

Curwood acquires rigid/thermoforming operation in Fremont, OH.

• 2000

Bemis acquires the shrink bag assets from the Viskase Corporation. The acquisition strengthens Curwood’s commitment to the meat and cheese markets.

• 2001

Bemis purchases Duralam.
