August 8, 2005 - We are pleased to announce that Curwood has won two awards from DuPont for Innovation in Packaging. The winners are as follows:

SILVER Award Winner – Jennie-O Turkey Store® “Oven Ready” Frozen Turkey

This has been an incredible year for the highly innovative product and package. On the heels of receiving Top Honors from the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), the package was recognized as a winner of one of just 22 awards given by DuPont.

Introduced last September, the Jennie-O Turkey Store bag consists of a two-part packaging system that combines an inner cook-in bag (not manufactured by Curwood) with an outer carrier bag. The outer bag features Curwood’s proprietary IntegraScore® opening feature vertically along the side of the package, high impact graphics, a comfortable two-hole carrying handle and functional side gussets which allow the package to stand up and stand out in the freezer case.

SPECIAL CITATION Winner – Curwood’s Large ABP® Shrink Bag

Shrink bags for Bone-In Cuts of meat are no stranger to the DuPont Awards. In 2003, Curwood won a silver award for the ArmorX™ line of shrink bags. Two years later, Curwood is proudly receiving an honorable mention for the ABP (Absolute Bone-In Protection) shrink bag line.

An extension of the current shrink bag line, the Large ABP bag accommodates meat cuts up to 42 inches wide – the widest such bag ever produced. The bag size makes packaging of wholesale bone-in meats attractive to meat producers because it generates fewer leakers, has exceptional layflat, clarity and shrink properties and provides edge-to-edge puncture resistance.

The DuPont Awards for Innovation in Food Processing and Packaging were presented in a ceremony held at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts on Friday, August 5th. With 111 entries, twenty-two food and non-food packaging innovations received awards.
